It helps with your balance and coordination, and you can really gage and get a feel of your mechanics when doing turns on land and then apply those same mechanics out in the water. Surfskating is a great training tool to help refine your surfing technique when there's no waves IMO 🤙🏽

Same same really. It still uses the same mechanics regardless of how many arms you put down. I've always known it as layback tail slide - always called it the same if I'm putting one hand or two hands out to slide, probably because I've always used surfing terminology when doing tricks on skateboards - I never really used skateboard terminology to describe the tricks I'm doing haha

Thank you, Been doing it for 15 years! Ah bugger! haha All part of the learning process though! I've had my share of stacks, cuts and bruises that's for sure, it's just a matter of getting back on and trying again. Surfskates can be a bit of a process to learn at first, but consistency and persistence is key. Once you get an understanding of how they work, they're so much fun!

The 34" connor is my got to, but I switch them up depending on what I feel like riding. Yeah the 77 would be perfect for you! defiantly recommend it!

Sick! fun board - has a touch more drive than the 34" connor, which is better for long distance skating. Yes you can! I use to ride my smoothstar 2km to school, in black school shoes too - not the most ideal shoes for skating either 😆 you can push off on a smoothstar like a regular skateboard - it might just take a bit to get used to as it will be looser than a regular board when pushing off, but with practice it's easy as . YEW!

That size should be fine. If you ever wanted to upgrade I'd recommend the 31" joane defay model by Smoothstar. I find the thruster turning mechanism on smoothstars are much smoother and responsive than other surfskate mechanisms on the market, which makes it easier to learn on and helps with getting better flow. If it feels a little big, try widening your stance a bit and do that drill that I mention in this video - leaning all they way onto your toe side then tail side. This should give you a better feel of the board and help with maintaining control over it. Hope this helps YEW!

Thank you! Yes absolutely! I've dropped in with it plenty of times. Just start on a small ramp first and work your way up - try rolling in on a ramp first, if you can find a ramp with a roll in, to help get your confidence up. Then try dropping in. Good luck YEW!

Yo! Nah I just leave it as is - I find the more I ride it, the looser it gets over time. I do get asked this question a lot though when people get their first smoothstars . When beginning the board generally seems not to respond the way you want it to or how you see how people ride it, so tightening/loosening the trucks isn’t gonna make all that much of a difference. This being, because most beginners are obviously still learning and quite haven’t mastered that rail to rail movement that helps propel the board along. Generally what I see with most people with starting out, they wiggle their hips a lot to generate forward momentum and this doesn’t really generate that drive. So when trying to generate speed, think of compression and extension. As you compress, bend your knees and lean into the board on your heel side, and as you come up for the extension, extend your body up and lean onto the rail on your toe side, as you do this bring your arms to help with the extension and forward momentum - Then just repeat to start generating speed. Try to exaggerate this movement a lot for your first couple of goes to really get Sense of what the Board is doing when you do shift your weight rail to trail - then from there tone it back. You’ll find the more you get comfortable with shifting your weight rail to rail, the more responsive the board will feel. It just takes a bit to find your balance and getting comfortable with shifting your weight from one side to the other without worrying about falling off. Once you've got a pretty good feel on this, the board should feel more fluid. Hope this helps YEW!

Yo! Yeah smoothstars definitely mimic that surfing feeling a lot better than other surfskates in my opinion, so they're really good for surf training. It depends on your height. If you're between 5'5"-5'8" the 31 would probably be better, but if you're between 5'8"-5'10" then I'd go the 33". Id recommend getting a board with the new THD thruster - it has 15-20% more hold and drive and its just that touch smoother than the thruster 1. Hope this helps YEW!
